Trial lawyer for 23 years. Substantive areas: antitrust; civil rights; constitutional law; products liability; intellectual property.
Since 1987 concentrating on legal ethics, lawyer malpractice, and related disciplines. Written many articles and given many speeches to large law firms and bar groups on those topics. Consulted on the telephone with loss prevention personnel at law firms on several thousand occasions. Worked with the American Law Institute in its formulation of the Restatement (Third) of the Law Governing Lawyers - as a member of the Members' Consultative Group. Member of the Advisory Council of the ABA Commission on the Evaluation of the Model Rules of Professional Conduct ("Ethics 2000" project). Testified before ABA Commission on Multidisciplinary Practice.

Frequently cited and one of the first commentaries to suggest that lawyers may use the Internet to communicate without the difficulties of using encryption.
